Liquid-crystal display television (LCD) technology is widely used today to produce electronic visual display. LCD in the past was restricted to notebooks, are now a reality for desktops, television, mobile, watches etc. The three greatest advantages of this type of video monitor compared to traditional tube-based monitors are the use of less space on the desk, less power consumption and 100% flicker-free, even with a refresh rate of only 60 frames per second (60 Hz).

In 2007, LCD televisions surpassed sales of CRT-based televisions worldwide for the first time, and its sales figures relative to other technologies are accelerating. LCD TVs are quickly displacing the only major competitors in the large-screen market, the plasma display panel and rear-projection television.
