The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro - An Impressive Smartphone

With new Smartphone models being released seemingly daily, it can be a daunting task choosing the right handset for you. Sony Ericsson has come up trumps with the new Vivaz Pro. Offering the kind of versatility which is sure to appeal to all kinds of users, this handset boasts key features including touch screen navigation, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a five mega pixel digital camera.

Superb quality display of on screen imagery is provided thanks to a 3.2 inch TFT resistive touch screen which offers the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 360x 640. This makes it perfect for viewing photos and video files, especially when combined with a built in accelerometer sensor which automatically rotates the contents of the screen so it can be viewed in portrait and landscape forms. The screen itself is manufactured from scratch-resistant materials which protects it from everyday wear and tear.

Measuring 109x 52x 15 mm, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is a surprisingly compact handset given the list of specifications. It weighs in at 117 g making it pocket friendly phone which is a comfort to hold and use.

Whilst on the go, users are presented with a number of options for staying connected to cellular networks and the Internet. Class 10 versions of both GPRS & EDGE provide the handset with its primary methods of connecting to cellular networks. Access to the Internet is provided via both 3G coverage (courtesy of an HSDPA at speeds of up to 10.2 mega bytes per second along with HSUPA at 2 MB per second).

One of the main hardware differences between the Vivaz Pro and the original Vivaz, besides the keyboard, is the five mega pixel camera. Although the original model features and eight mega pixel camera, the Vivaz Pro incorporates an impressive five mega pixel camera which operates at a pixel resolution of 2560x 1920 pixels resulting in high quality still images and video. In fact, video is recorded in 720p (HD) at a rate of 24 frames per second. In order to simplify the task of taking great quality still images, a number of features are included as standard ranging from Autofocus, touch focus, face & smile detection, image stabilisation and an LED flash. Geo-tagging operates thanks to GPS and automatically records the location at which a photo was taken.

For storage and documents, music files and other data are, 75 MB of internal storage is provided as standard within the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro. Alongside this, a micro SD card slot comes with a pre-installed 8 GB memory card. Although this can be upgraded by inserting a larger card, of up to 16 GB being accommodated. The vast internal phonebook can store seemingly endless number contacts and utilises the Photocall function.

Given its high levels of everyday functionality and aesthetic appeal, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro appears to ticks all the boxes and offers everything you would look for in a modern Smartphone. The combination of touchscreen navigation and the efficiency of a full QWERTY keyboard illustrates just how versatile handset is.
